Roland RATHELOT (University of Warwick) – “How do women and men search for jobs over the unemployment spell? ”

Abstract:We use Swedish administrative data on job vacancies, job seekers, clicks by job seekers on vacancies, and employment registers to investigate differences in job search and job finding between female and male job seekers. In terms of search intensity, we show that women tend to click more, but apply to less jobs conditional on clicking. Women target jobs that are less paid, closer to their home and more concentrated in the occupational dimension, which is reflected in the jobs they end up into. Joint with Lena Hensvik and Thomas Le Barbanchon).
